Capture Ardathanatus so he can be redeemed
After a well-rested night in the temple of Sarendae, the party ventured down to the next level via the stairs to the east. A long hallway leading north led to a small room with three other exits. Large basalt azure panels depicting sea-life and merfolk adorned the walls and standing in one corner stood a crystal lamp burning with blue light. Ashelin determined the lamp contained a continual flame spell so the party pocketed the valuable magical device. Heading east the party found a closed door, behind with Bethany detected the sound of crackling flame. The door opened to reveal a large firepit that was being used as a forge by an efreeti who was just finishing a piece of plate armor as the group entered. About the room there were also several salamanders. Ashelin stepped forward and addressed the efreeti in its native language. The efreeti looked up from its labour and sighed, saying. “I have only one more day here. Leave now without a fuss and I won’t be forced to burn you to death.”
At the party’s puzzled looks the efreeti added. “I have been bound here, leave me be and I won’t be forced to do something you would regret.”
Viekko then stepped forward and offered. “What if I sent you home to your natural plane now?”
The efreeti agreed to the plan and so Viekko used a spell to dismiss the outsider. As the efreeti faded from sight, the salamanders shook their heads as if waking from a dream, noticed the party and attacked. After a short battle, the salamanders were defeated and the party claimed the finished armour the efreeti had been crafting as battle loot. The armour had been crafted from a very rare material called Horacalcum and was quite valuable.
Heading north from the blue panel room another closed door opened on a dusty store room filled with empty crates and folded sacks. Ashelin looked for traces of magic and detected several jars that had a magical aura. The mage determined the objects were soul jars and contained the essence of creatures whose souls had been stolen and placed in the jars. The group collected several jars and stored them away for later study. As the adventurers left the store room, a creature that appeared to be a ragged old woman dressed in tattered rags stepped forward and demanded. “Return my property.”
Realising they were facing a Night Hag, the party attacked and a fierce battle erupted. The hag tossed several spells around including a nasty lightning bolt that hot everyone except Laneth and a stinking cloud that made Laneth and Keen Ears sick. After being hacked and slashed by Laneth and Bethany, as well as filled full of arrows by Keen Ears, all to the comedy stylings of wise-cracking Nick, the hag finally succumbed to a well-placed flurry of magic missiles, the bread and butter of any battle mage. As the hag collapsed, the party looted several more jars from the corpse and proceeded to smash them and release all of the trapped souls so they could go on to the after-life. The adventurers also recovered the hag’s heart stone and an unholy magical dagger.
